Known as the "Smithsonian of the South," Raleigh has a longstanding reputation as a historic, artistic, and cultural destination. This art collection honors that legacy, transforming the hotel's public spaces into a living gallery and dynamic museum and blending historical reverence with contemporary expression.
A TOWERING LITERARY LANDMARK
One of Tempo's brand signatures is a "look up" moment, embodied here in the hotel's most dramatic feature: a double-height staircase measuring 41' wide by 25' high. Featuring 200 three-dimensional vinyl book spines, this installation celebrates Raleigh's contributions to literature and storytelling, inviting guests to be part of discovering the next chapter as they ascend through the space.
Sprinkled throughout the collection are appreciative nods to the state’s unique history and identity: the striking Northern Cardinal state bird perched near the oft-seen Blue Jay, handwritten letters from North Carolina-based poet Cornelia Spencer, and elegant framed portraits of Sir Walter Raleigh himself.
Inspired by Raleigh’s reputation as the “Smithsonian of the South,” this art collection celebrates the city’s rich cultural landscape through an eclectic mix of mediums and compositions. Blending classic influences with a contemporary twist, the curation mirrors a museum experience and features emerging North Carolina artists.
