THE STORY

Louisville is synonymous with two things: the Kentucky Derby and whiskey. But this collection reflects these traditions with subtlety and elegance. Rather than overt depictions of horses or whiskey barrels, the collection hints at these iconic symbols. Guests will find photography printed on leather-like materials, abstract paintings inspired by bourbon’s smoky essence, and even sculptures made from repurposed horse bridles.

From River Trade to Art Form: Louisville’s Legacy of Making

In Louisville, craftsmanship is part of the city's roots. Rope weaving, once important for river trade on the Ohio, has evolved into a modern art form. Local artists mix traditional techniques with fresh ideas, keeping this craft alive. It’s a piece of Louisville’s history that still shapes the city’s creativity today.

A "Look Up" Moment by Ashley Nardone

Look up as you enter the bar and you’ll see Ashley Nardone’s stunning installation, "Smooth Finish." Inspired by the way whiskey is poured, this ceiling piece uses glass bubbles to mimic the tiny drops of liquid, and as the light shifts, you’ll see colors change just like the hues of bourbon. It’s designed to make you stop, look up, and take in the moment.

The art at Tempo Louisville reflects the city’s love for craftsmanship, the Kentucky Derby, and whiskey culture. We chose pieces that tell these stories through local materials—whether it’s a subtle nod to horses or the texture of a rope, each work brings out the real character of Louisville.
